Safety and Variacs is an important area to consider when researching your variac transformer purchase.  Safety and Variacs will factor into the way you operate your variac transformer, where it will be used, and how you maintain it in the future. 

Because power source equipment involves the transfer of live electricity, it is always wise to treat this powerful instrumentation with a health dose of respect, and a thorough understanding of its capabilities.  The following Safety and Variacs suggestions pertain not only to variac transformers but are a good rule of thumb for transformers and power source equipment in general:
